Martham Ferry drainage mill had a Norfolk boat shaped cap that held a 10 bladed fantail and a gallery. The pumping system was powered by four double shuttered sails. At one point, and certainly during the 1930's the mill was known as Stark's Mill.

The sketch is in Bob’s own hand showing the mill with the advert dated 1955. Bearing in mind that he had finished restoring Thurne at this point we think he was contemplating buying Martham Ferry and restoring that!

Former pumping mill on Norfolk Broads for sale at £595,000
2024

A former pumping mill in Martham, on the Norfolk Broads, is up for sale at £595,000.
Martham Mill is available through selling agent Sowerbys, which says the mill has been used as a successful holiday let, but has the potential to be used as a full-time home.

2024
The mill is set over five floors and includes features from its mill past throughout.
The ground floor accommodation comprises an open-plan kitchen and sitting room, which features both wall and base units as well as an integrated oven and hob, plus space for a dishwasher and fridge.
Also on the ground floor is a link through to a single-storey extension, which houses a bathroom with bath that has an overhead shower attachment, WC and wash hand basin, plus a utility room.

The first-floor bedroom has views overlooking the countryside, and one floor above is another bedroom that offers the same and is suitable for two single beds.
The third floor can be used for any number of purposes according to the owner's needs, while the top floor features a newly installed mill cap, something that Sowerbys describes as a “genuine piece of craftmanship”. There's also access to the cap walkway, with views over the river.
Outside, there is a private garden with a raised deck area, ideal for summers in the garden and makes
a useful entertainment space.
Opposite the garden is private mooring and a dock, with the mooring being leasehold and additional mooring and a boat are available via separate negotiation.
The property has a private parking space at the staithe, which is a 400-metre walk along the river to the mill.
Martham Mill is in Martham, a village centred around a green and offering a range of amenities including shops, schooling and a doctor’s surgery.
The nearest town to Martham is Great Yarmouth, which offers a wide range of facilities including retail and leisure, while Norwich is 18 miles away and has transport links to London Liverpool Street via the train station.
