Surlingham towermill stood to the south of the village. The 4 storey mill used patent sails to power 3 pairs of French burr stones, Auxiliary power was supplied by a small steam engine. |

Jeremiah Chapman was born in Surlingham in 1791. He married Elizabeth Rawlin in 1813. He was emplyed as a miller at Surlingham by at least 1814, before moving to Claxton to take over the running of Claxton smockmill. |
