Raveningham Detached mill was built in a detached part of the parish within Thurlton Marshes, to drain water up into the New Cut. The brick tower held a Norfolk boat shaped cap, four patent sails and an 8 bladed fantail.
In later years a steam engine was installed

The New Cut was a 2½ mile long channel constructed to connect the River Yare to the River Waveney and was opened in 1833. A Norfolk Industrial Archaeology Society journal stated that the mill was rebuilt and turned when the New Cut was constructed.
