Sprowston Road
postmill |
The land this post mill was built on was advertised in 1825 |
To Builders, Brickmakers and Millers. |
Either together or in Lots, for the convenience of Purchaser, a Piece of FREEHOLD LAND, at Sprowston, containing 13 Acres and upwards, about half a mile from Magdalen Gates, abutting one end upon the brick ground late of Messrs. Stannard and Harris. The land is full of earth of the finest quality, and the upper part affords a desirable situation for a wind-mill. |
The mill was marked on the 1834 and 1838 maps. A Mr. Hall was the miller in 1842 when the mill was blown down on the 4th February of that year. |
The deepest snow we have had here this winter was on Friday night last, and the following morning, brought by a strong northerly gale – but so much rain has since fallen, particularly on Tuesday last, (from morning till night,) that there is scarcely a vestige of snow remaining; and of course the waters again cover our marshes and low grounds. By a sudden gust of wind last Saturday noon, a flour mill on Moswold-heath was blown down, and three others damaged in their tops and sails, in the neighbourhood. – The mill blown down was in the occupation of Mr. Hall. – The other sufferers by this gale were Mr. Leeds and Mr. Tubbs, to a considerable amount. |
