Barney tower mill stood in Mill Lane, which is a small lane opposite Grange Farm. The mill had patent sails powering two pairs of stones and a flour mill. |

Robert Richmond was in severe financial difficulties by 1871, necessitating a Bill of Sale by auction of his mill, horse, harness, cart, household effects etc. However, he was also Briningham village postmaster and miller at Briningham postmill, which he continued to rent until the death of his landlord, William Sexton, who died in 1879. |
